We were homeported in NAS Jacksonville, Florida and then NS Roosevelt Roads, PR. In 63 I went to NAS Corpus Christi, Texas with VT-30 in A1H's & T28's.Decomm. VT-30 and went to VT-31 and S2F's. Then to NAS North Island, San Diego, California and VP-40 with P5M's. Deployed to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam then turn in the last P5M. and Tx. to NAS Moffett Field, California and transitioned to P-3B's. Went to F/E school and deployed to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Returned to NAS Moffett Field, California and transferred to VT-3 in NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. Decommisioned the T28's and finished my tour in VT-6 and T34's. TX. to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland and back to P-3 F/E school and on to VP-26 in NAS Brunswick, Maine. Deployed to NAS Bermuda, NAS Sigonella, Sicily and back home to Retire to my home in Boonville Mo. Went to work for the Mo State Dept. of Corrections. I just retired from there as a Captain..." HITT, CDR James R. Shipmate Pix http://www.vp16.navy.mil/xoh.htm "...While attending Santa Clara University (BS in Computer Science - Math) CDR Hitt attended NROTC functions at the UC Berkeley unit earning his commission in June 1987. Upon commissioning, he began primary flight training at VT-6, NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. CDR Hitt was on the Commodore's List at his winging from VT-31 at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas in April 1989. He reported to VP-31 at NAS Moffett Field for initial maritime patrol training. Upon graduation from the "Black Lightning" camp in September 1989, he joined VP-48 where he participated in a split site deployment to NAS Cubi Point, Philippines and NAF Kadena, Okinawa, Japan. After VP-48's decommissioning, CDR Hitt transferred to VP-40, joining the "Fighting Marlins" early in their 1991 NAF Misawa, Japan deployment. During his first tour he acted as Power Plants Branch Officer, Readiness Officer, Special Projects Officer (EWO), Schedules Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, and Pilot NATOPS Officer as well as Instructor Pilot. Upon completion of his first sea tour in October 1992, he joined VP-30 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, the Atlantic Fleet's Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) completing detachments to Mildenhall, Rio de Janeiro, NS Rota, Spain, NAS Brunswick, Maine and NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. Through FRS consolidation, CDR Hitt was assigned the duties of Aviation Electrical/ Instruments and Ordnance Branch Officer, Fleet Projects Officer, and CNAL Alternate Pilot Evaluator. CDR Hitt departed VP-30 in October 1995 and reported aboard USS CONSTELLATION (CV-64) at NAS North Island, San Diego as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer ("Shooter"). During this tour he also sailed with USS KITTY HAWK in support of their flight operations. While onboard CONSTELLATION, he served as Aviation Fuels Division (V-4) Officer and Catapult and Arresting Gear Division (V-2) Officer, and qualified as Officer of the Deck (Inport) and Assistant Command Duty Officer. He deployed with CONNIE to WESTPAC and the Arabian Gulf in April 1997. CDR Hitt detached from CONSTELLATION in April 1998 and reported to VP-30 for refresher training before arriving at VP-1 for his department head tour. After completing recruit training at Orlando, Florida, he attended Yeoman "A" School in Meridian, Mississippi. In November 1974 he reported to his first duty station, VT-6 at NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida and was assigned as the Maintenance Department Yeoman. In November 1976 Master Chief Hartman transferred to VP-24 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida where he was assigned as the Officer Records Yeoman and Leading Petty Officer. While attached to VP-24 Master Chief Hartman deployed to NAS Keflavik, Iceland and NAS Sigonella, Sicily. During his tour with VP-24 Master Chief Hartman advanced to Yeoman Second Class. In December 1978 Master Chief Hartman separated from the Navy and enrolled at the University of Wisconsin. He graduated from UW-Madison in December 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. Also during this time Master Chief Hartman was a drilling Reservist at the Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Madison, Wisconsin assigned to the NR CG-19 DALE 1913 unit. Following graduation from college Master Chief Hartman reenlisted in the Naval Reserve Full Time Support program in February 1984 and accepted orders to Personnel Support Activity, New Orleans. In February 1987 Master Chief Hartman transferred to Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region Thirteen in Great Lakes where he was assigned as Training Administrator and Administrative Department Supervisor. While attached to REDCOM Thirteen Master Chief Hartman advanced to Yeoman First Class and was the 1989 Sailor of the Year. Transferring in May 1990 to USS COPELAND (FFG 25) homeported in San Diego, California Master Chief Hartman experienced his first afloat assignment. Assigned as the Ship's Secretary he advanced to Chief Yeoman and qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Officer of the Deck (Underway). In July 1993 Master Chief Hartman reported to Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Readiness Center Salt Lake City as the Administrative Department Head. In April 1994 he was advanced to Senior Chief Yeoman and assumed the additional duties of Command Senior Chief until his transfer in June 1996 to the Flag Writer billet on the staff of Commander, Naval Surface Reserve Force based in NAS New Orleans, Louisiana. In September 1998 Master Chief Hartman transferred to Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region Sixteen in Minneapolis, Minnesota and assumed responsibilities as Director of Command Services and in July of 2000 he transferred to Naval Air Reserve Center Chicago at Naval Training Center Great Lakes and assumed duties as Command Master Chief. In July 2003 Master Chief Hartman transferred to his current assignment of Command Master Chief at Naval Air Reserve Whidbey, NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. Master Chief Hartman's personal decorations, service awards and campaign/unit awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (with Silver Star), Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy "E" Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (with four Bronze Stars), Naval Reserve Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (with two Bronze Stars), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with Bronze Star), Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Navy Rifle Expert Medal, Navy Pistol Expert Medal. OILSCHLAGER, ENSIGN Rodney R. "Rod" roilschlager@icloud.com "...I was commissioned an Ensign in November of 1973, started primary training at VT-1 flying the T34, then on to basic and advanced training at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas receiving my Naval Aviation wings on October 4, 1974. Assigned to VP-30 for flight training in the P-3C and joined VP-40 in April of 1975 to 1978. My assignments at VP-40 were the Electric Branch officer, Nuclear Weapons Training Officer, an instructor pilot, and finally the pilot Natops Officer. I was the PPC for Crew 5. I then was assigned to VT-6 at NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida as a instructor pilot in the T-34C. I left the Navy in November of 1979. I went to graduate school for a short period of time before moving to Oshkosh, WI in August of 1980 and joining and becoming a partner and President in my wife’s uncle’s family Real Estate Development and Management business. We built homes, condominiums and apartments in the west coast of Florida and throughout eastern Wisconsin. I remain involved with the business to this day. I then served with VT-6 from 1983-1986, VPU-2 from 1986-1989, VP-6 as Ops Officer from 1990-1991 (deployed to NAS Adak, Alaska during that time and had to watch Desert Storm on CNN with everyone else), CPW-2 from 1991-1993, VRC-30 from 1993-1996 XO/CO CODs (81 traps), NATO (London!) from 1996-1999, and NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida 1999-2001 Base XO. I am still active, now the Chief of Staff for Chief of Naval Education and Training at NAS Pensacola, Florida, probably retire in 2004. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned in May 1981. He was designated a Naval Aviator in June 1982 and reported to the "Shooters" of VT-6 as a primary flight instructor under the Selective Return Graduate (SERGRAD) program. In August 1984, Captain Smith joined the "BATTLECATS" of HSL-43 as a commissioning plankowner and made deployments to the Indian Ocean as the Operations Officer of the first SH-60B detachment embarked in USS CROMMELIN (FFG 37) and as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) embarked in USS CURTS (FFG 38) as part of the USS MISSOURI BBBG. He also served as the squadron's Line Division Officer, Quality Assurance Officer, and NATOPS Officer. In November 1988, Captain Smith received orders to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Financial Management. Captain Smith reported to HSL-45 in August 1991. During his tour with the "WOLFPACK" he served as the Safety Officer, Operations Officer, and was the OIC of a detachment deployed to the Persian Gulf in USS COWPENS (CG 63). During this cruise COWPENS participated in a Tomahawk cruise missile strike against Iraq and the detachment conducted cross deck flight operations with the Russian destroyer RNS TRIBUTS and its two Helix helicopters. From October 1993 to June 1996, Captain Smith was assigned to the CNO Staff as the Deputy Assistant for the Flying Hour Program under the Director, Naval Air Warfare (N88). He then reported to Maxwell AFB for studies in National Security Affairs at the Air War College. In November 1997, he assumed the duties as HSL-47's Executive Officer and took command of the "SABERHAWKS" in June 1999. During his tenure the squadron conducted their first Hellfire missile live fire exercise, deployed three (including their first) armed-helicopter detachments, and deployed the first LAMPS MkIII detachment embarked in an aircraft carrier for an extended deployment. In November 2000, he reported to Naval Air Systems Command as the Deputy for Operations on the staff of the Deputy Commander for Acquisition and Operations, (AIR-1.0). In February 2002, Captain Smith transferred to NAVAIR's Program Office for Aviation Training Systems, PMA 205, as the Executive Officer and program team leader for the Air Combat Training System. Captain Smith is currently XO of VX-1. Captain Smith has over 4500 flight hours of which 3500 are in the SH-60B.
