BRADY, CDR Fred L. Retired Frayd@aol.com "...I served with FASRON-117 MCAS/NAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii in 1946. Charlie Brower was the skipper and was a great one for morning exercise. As a radioman, I was a test crewman on every aircraft we serviced from the PV of Willington's old squaron to PB4Y2's that were left over after the war. I made 7 TRANSPACs to NAAS Camp Kearny, California were the planes were accepted one day and chopped up the next. In the early 1950's I was transfered to VP-861 NAS Jacksonville, Florida for NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. VP-861 was deployed they sent us over to VP-5 for about two months and then on to NAF Port Lyautey, Morocco for the rest of the deployment. I was a plankowner VP-18 and a crewmember with crew six and seven. It was with crew seven that CDR Grainger convinced me to try for OCS and thanks to him and LT (later VADM) Murphy I made it and completed a 35 year career in 1979. I love the VPNavy. I am a volunteer at the National Museum of Naval Aviation were it is my pleasure to meet and greet many of the old timers from those great years in my life..." [11FEB2003]

Memorial Picture Shipmate Pix "...JENKINS, AVCM William H...William H. Jenkins passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, March 7th following a long battle with cancer. Harvey was born in Washington, DC August 12, 1938 but resided the last 33 years in Orange Park having retired from a 30 year Naval Career. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elbreta (Al) Jenkins; daughters: Wendy and Kelley Jenkins; son, William and his wife, Jill and their sons: Fenn, Jack and Will Jenkins and their daughter, Meredith "Meri" and her husband, Robert Pyle and their daughter Erin and son William Pyle. He is also survived by his cousin, Linda Martin. He was a past Master of Orange Park Lodge #267 F&AM, a past Patron of Orange Park OES #226, and a member of the Middleburg Presbyterian Church. A viewing will be held Thursday, 6-8 PM on March 9th and funeral services will be held Friday, 11 AM, March 10th at HOLLY HILL FUNERAL HOME, 3601 Old Jennings Rd, Middleburg. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to OP Lodge #267 F&AM and Middleburg Presbyterian Church. AWCM Jenkins, a native of Washington D.C., began his naval career in September 1955 with tours of duty in VP-622, NAS Anacostia, Washington, D.C. and later VP-861 at NAS New York, New York. His next assignment included NAS Pensacola, Florida at "A" and "B" schools at NATTC Memphis, Tennessee and VP-8. He then served with the Federal German Naval Air Wing at FGNAS Nordholz, West Germany, where he earned designation as an ASW aircrewman in the BR-1150 Atlantic ASW aircraft. Following a tour with VP-30 he was transferred to the staff of Commander Fleet Air, Keflavik, Iceland, where he served as Tactical Support Center Watch Officer. He joined the USS Saratoga (CV-60) as ASW Watch Officer in 1974, following his tour with service on the staff of Commander Air ASW Wing One, Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida. He reported to VP-24 in January 1980 and assumed the duties of Command Master Chief until June 1985 retiring with 30 years of Naval Service..." I left the squadron in March 1953 as an AT1. I flew as Radar Operator on HF6 (the best crew in the squadron) most of that time. We deployed twice to Port Lyautey and once to Malta. I was there when the VP-861 designation was returned to NAS Norfolk, Virginia and the squadron was re-commissioned as VP-18..." [02APR98]
