EICHELBERGER, John Retired ichelbod@undata.com "...I joined the Navy in 1957. My first squadron was VW-4 Hurricane Hunters with WC121N's. We were homeported in NAS Jacksonville, Florida and then NS Roosevelt Roads, PR. In 63 I went to NAS Corpus Christi, Texas with VT-30 in A1H's & T28's.Decomm. VT-30 and went to VT-31 and S2F's. Then to NAS North Island, San Diego, California and VP-40 with P5M's. Deployed to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam then turn in the last P5M. and Tx. to NAS Moffett Field, California and transitioned to P-3B's. Went to F/E school and deployed to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Returned to NAS Moffett Field, California and transferred to VT-3 in NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. Decommisioned the T28's and finished my tour in VT-6 and T34's. TX. to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland and back to P-3 F/E school and on to VP-26 in NAS Brunswick, Maine. Deployed to NAS Bermuda, NAS Sigonella, Sicily and back home to Retire to my home in Boonville Mo. Went to work for the Mo State Dept. of Corrections. I just retired from there as a Captain..." After boot camp at NAS Jacksonville, Florida, Ordnance School at NATTC NAS Norman, Oklahoma, Naval Air Gunnery School at NAGS Yellowater Fl, and Operational Training at NAS Master Field, I made AOM 3/c and was awarded the coveted siler wings. Our group was then transferred to NAAS Camp Kearny, California and became a part of newly formed VPB-197. I was the starboard waist gunner. Our Chief Pilot was LCDR Barney.
