AUBERT, Bob rite2aubert@juno.com "...I joined the Selected Naval Reserve Program in July of 1962, served part of my active duty in NAS Memphis, Tennessee for AT Training, and returned to NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania in January 1963. VP-936 was just organizing at that time and I was assigned to P2 No. 208 BUNO: 131483. I primarily "flew" the radio seat but received training in Julie, MAD, Radar, and ECM. My tour in this squadron lasted about a year and, at my request, was reassigned to a VR squadron, where I had several friends. I'll answer any "Shipmate" who would like to exchange "sea stories" from our time at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. AUT, REAR ADMIRAL Warren E. http://www.quarterdeck.org/book/cencoms/aut.html "...Rear Adm. Warren Edward Aut was born in St. Louis on Nov. 30, 1932. He entered the U. S. Naval Academy as a midshipman in July, 1951 and was honorably discharged in February, 1952. One year later, he enlisted in the U. S. Naval Reserves and reported for active duty on Aug. 19, 1953. By August 1954, he was an ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserves designated a Naval aviator and continued on active duty. His first duty assignment was at fleet Airborne Electronics Training Unit from December, 1954 to February, 1955. He then reported to VP-22 for three years before going to NAS Corpus Christi, Texas as a flight instructor. He was promoted to Lieutenant (junior grade) in February, 1956 and augmented in the U.S. Navy. He was promoted to lieutenant on Dec. 1,1958. After receiving a baccalaureate degree in Naval Science from the Navy's Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., he reported to Helicopter Training Squadron 8, NAAS Ellyson Field, Pensacola, Florida. In September, 1961, he reported to Helicopter AntiSubmarine Squadron Ten and in October he moved to helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Two and then to helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Eight as a helicopter plan commander in August, 1962. He was the aircraft handling officer on USS Valley Forge (LPH-8) from February, 1964 to July, 1965. During his time here, he was promoted to lieutenant commander. He attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Va. from June, 1966 to April, 1969, he was a student and eventually an engineering test pilot and instructor at the Navy's Test Pilot School at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. During his career, the admiral accumulated more than 6,000 flight hours in more than 30 different types of aircraft. He made commander during his tour here. He was at Helicopter AntiSubmarine Squadron Ten from April to September, 1969. He was first the executive officer of Helicopter AntiSubmarine Squadron Four and then the commanding officer in July, 1970. In 1971, he returned to the Naval Postgraduate School and received his master's degree in financial Management. He returned to Naval Air Test Center as a test pilot instructor in December, 1972 and then reported to commander, Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Wing One. At the office of the Chief of Naval Operations, he served as executive director for the Ocean Surveillance Master Plan; as head, Ocean Surveillance Planning and Program Branch; and as head, Tactical Exploitation of National Systems Project Office. While at this assignment, he was promoted to captain. In March, 1979, he became the commanding officer of NAS North Island, San Diego, California and prior to reporting as center commander of NTC, he was designated a rear admiral, He was promoted to rear admiral on Sept. 1, 1982. Following NTC, he served at Deputy Director and Commander field Command, DNA, Albuquerque, N.M. In September, 1984, Rear Adm. Aut reported as commander, fleet Air Mediterranean and held that post until July, 1986. He then became Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic, Norfolk, Va. Rear Adm. Aut has received the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal with one Gold Star in lieu of a second award; a Navy Commendation Medal; a Navy Unit Commendation; Meritorious Unit Commendation awarded at Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron four; a China Service Medal; and the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star in lieu of a second award. His medals and citations for service during the Vietnam conflict include the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross Color; the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Actions Color and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device..."
