Returned with VC-8 to Sanford until VAH-1 was formed. Moved to NAS Jacksonville, Florida with VAH-1 until re-enlistment in 1957. Instructor as PT1 at Fleet Air Intelligence Training Center in NAS Norfolk, Virginia until 1960. VQ-2, NS Rota, Spain 1960 to 1963 as mission planner/intel. analyst (PT1). Transferred into FASRON-109 NAS Jacksonville, Florida from VAH-1 in August 1957. I had been a student at Fleet Air Intelligence Training Center in NAS Norfolk, Virginia when VAH-1 deployed, stayed in FASRON-109 until re-enlistment as AQ2 in October 1957. We were the service squadron for VP-3, and VP-5, under the same air wing. They were using P2V-5 Neptunes, at the time. I lived in Barracks H. I remember viewing the brig, and swimming pool from the barracks. NAS Jacksonville, Florida was a recreational haven, replete with gyms, swimming pools, library, ships service, bar (The Anchorage), lounges, etc. The bases to follow, NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada and NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island were a disappointing second. According to his Naval records, he served with VP-5 NAS Jacksonville, Florida. He deployed to NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada (October 1958) and NAS Keflavik, Iceland (May 1959). Also mentioned in these records was "FASRON-109". Cliff passed away in 1996 and as he mentioned very little about his Navy life. I would like to hear from others who knew him at that time..." WEIDENHAMMER, ETCS/ATCS Fred Retired fred259@comcast.net "...Reported to VP-5 February 1949 (AT2 in PR, Radar Operator on MC9 and shifted to MC1 after deployment to NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada November 1949. VP-5 moved to NAS Jacksonville, Florida to be housed in one of the seaplane hangars opposite FASRON-109. I went to Breezy point, for APS-20 Maintenance School MC1 & MC9 went onto to night operations with a sub off RI. (It's my understanding MC-9 and crew were lost with crash into the sea). Returning from Breezy Point, the squadron was on deployment again to NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada. It was now shipping over time for my second tour, however I remained in FASRON-109 and to set up the APS-20 shop. Electronic Maintenance Div.was run by ALC Richard Reiser. I was the acting shop Chief when Reiser went to AT school. Later I was transferredred to Instructor Duty ATA School at NAS Memphis, Tennessee. In 1955 I went to GCA Maintenance School at NAS Olathe, Kansas, next promoted to ATC and assigned to GCA NAS Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida, four years later in 1957 transferred to setup GCA-46 at NAS Sigonella, Sicily, Jan 1962 transferred to GCA Maint. Instructor to setup new school at NAS Glynco, Georgia advanced to ATCS and required to change designator to BUSHIPS ETCS working in specialty requirement later retired on 20 years..."
