"...PARRISH, AMM3C William Roy...My father, AMM3C William Roy Parrish, passed away August 15th, 1971 and is buried in Mathis, TX. Dad served with VPB-106 in Samar, P.I. and his CO was LCDR L.R. Whitacker, VPB-21, VP-111, VP-HL-11 and flew missions to Shanghai and Tsingtao in 1946. Dad also spent time at NAS Chase Field, Beeville, Texas, NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, NAS Pensacola, Florida and NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida before leaving the Navy..." STRAITWELL, Donald D. bigdds@msn.com "...I served in VP-111 (Later changed to VP-HL-11) From the fall of 1946 till October 1947. I have the exact dates in a copy of my short service record. I enlisted on July 6, 1945 and was discharged on October 25 1947. I was squadron Yeoman (Y2) and flew with the crew on occasion. We flew to NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada on one occasion that I was with the crew. We had to land in Halifax, Nova Scotia on one trip. I have squadron pictures and pictures of the planes in flight over Newfoundland. We had nine planes in the squadron. One was Number 59947. Our CO was CDR B. C. Wheatley..." [21NOV2000]
