A BIT OF HISTORY: "...There was an event that I remember in the Officer's Club in Rota, Spain many years ago where at a squadron party some of the officers rolled out a new logo that featured a Schmoo figure, you know the little ghost looking thing, and suggested it as the new squadron logo. They also made up a song called "We're Lovin' Eleven, We Fly P2V's, Over the Oceans and Over the Seas". I'm sure the song didn't make the Top 40 but it was fun at the time. I doubt also that anything formal was ever done about changing the logo. It may just have been unofficial for that short period of one deployment. I was curious as to whether anyone looking at your site might remember it. I flew most of my flight hours in P-2V7's (SP-2H). I had about 8,000 hours as a "7th Man, then Radio Operator and finally a First Tech. before VP-11 transitioned to P-3B's in 1967. I only made one major deployment with the squadron in P-3's. The P-2's hold my fondest memories..." Contributed by Charlie Frey AVCM (ret) chasam@bellsouth.net

A BIT OF HISTORY: "...VP-11 Songbook from 1964...those were the good old days of Naval Aviation!..." Contributed by Bob Nelson sudabay@aol.com WebSite: http://members.aol.com/SUDABAY/index.html [01FEB98] THE LOVIN ELEVEN' SONG We're Lovin' Eleven, we fly P2V's,
Over the oceans and over the seas, Avoiding the wavetops and social disease, We're Lovin' Eleven, we fly P2V's!
(Refram) A-rum, A-mm
Oh, off in the distance, a wonderful sight, A P2V-7 all shiny and bright, But the wings arc all wobbly and somethings not right, The crew's been playing at the "0" club all night.
We're Lovin' Eleven, we fly through the air, Just look for a party and we will be there. But on the next morning we won't be around, We're off running submarines into the ground.
With twenty box lunches and coffee to spare, We're way over gross when we take to the air. We fly through the weather and all through the night, If we make it till dawn, thank God we're all right.
Down under the ocean they're shaking with fright, 'Cause Lovin' Eleven is off on a flight. The submarine skippers are losing sleep, And even the friendlies run silent and deep.
We go up to Iceland, the engine goes POW! We look at each other, oh what happened now? The plane captain's fainted, the PPC cried, The old starboard engine just farted and died.
No cannon to shoot and no sidewinder pair, No burner to light - - - - - off in the air, But still we're the hottest in all of the fleet, The poor old jet jockeys can't even compete.
A happier bunch you never did see, But that was before we won that damned "E." And now that we have it, oh what do we do, We stand the damned duty one night out of two.
