During his tour he received 1 Distinguishing Flying Cross, 3 Air Medals, 3 gold stars and 3 silver. First Air Medal was signed by Admiral C.W. Nimitz 1944 for Wake Island Jan 30 - Feb 11 air raids. Second Air Medal was signed by Rear Admiral J. Perry 1945 for Apr 28 - May 15 air raids. No paper record of the 3rd Air Medal. He did save a piece of shrapnel that I believe he got wounded with during one air attack, no Purple Heart medal found in his belonging but his sister's seem to think he did receive one. He flew on 3 different planes, "Vicious Virgin", "Class-Lassy" and "Twid's Tw'oronado" that I know of. I do not know who the pilots or crew were, no names, just pictures in his Kaneohe Bay LogAlbum. I would love to find out the names of guys he flew with if possible to put names with the photos. His LogAlbum shows pictures from Orot Guam M. I. in Oct 1946. I still have his Orot Guam Library Card stating he was only 24 years old at that time. I know that he visited Shanghai, China but not sure if it was R&R or a temporary station before return home. Carmine is still alive and will be 94 on his next birthday. Living in a Laurie, Missouri retired from the FAA after 30++ years as an Air Traffic Controller at the Columbia, Missouri airport. After his naval discharge Carmine attended Boston University and received 2 degrees, 1 in Arts & Science and 1 in Journalism. After graduation Carmine moved west to Normal, Oklahoma as a broadcaster for a local radio station. At some point in time he next moved to Missouri where he took an Air Traffic Controller job with FAA and lived in Columbia, Mo. until retirement in 1979. If anyone recognizes people, I would love to hear from you. It's amazing how Carmine can still remember things after so much time has past. Just a couple of years ago another retiree of the Navy living in the same nursing home was talking with Carmine and they discovered the guy use to fuel the planes Carmine as on at the same fueling location during that time period….small world isn't it. So anyone who has knowledge of the squadron, I welcome your stories and identities of crew members..." [22FEB2016]
