Jack was a 20 year resident of Orange Park and retired in 1991 from the U.S. Navy as a Master Chief after 23 years service, serving as a flight engineer in the P-3 community. He was a member of F&AM, Cabul Lodge, Green Cove Springs, Fleet Reserve Branch 93, and an active member of the Clay County Gator Nation. Mr. Lee was currently employed by Nav Air. Survivors include his loving wife of 18 years, Cullene; daughter, Angela Fuller; mother, Corrine Gore; mother-in- law, Wilda Fuller; sisters, Amber Ka Lee, Mary Sue Nolte and Mona Pearl Constable; brother, James Guy Lee; numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2003, 10:00 AM in the chapel of JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. "...LEE, CDR Cyrus S...CDR Cyrus S Lee VP-4 Veteran 1956-1958. Cyrus S Lee, 81, of Billings, MT passed away Wednesday April 11, 2001 of natural causes. Born Jan. 27, 1920 on the family farm northwest of Wolf Point, MT. He spent his youth working on the Lee wheat ranch and attended the little country school, "Wide Awake" along with Wolf Point HS where he excelled in sports. Upon graduation he attended both MSU-Bozeman and U of M at Missoula where he earned a degree in business administration. On July 15, 1941 Cy entered the Navy's V-5 Aviation Cadet Training Program in Seattle, WA and completed his flight training at Corpus Christi, TX. Ensign Lee received orders to VP-72 in 1942 and spent one year in the South Pacific. Wed Lois Koch Lee in Billings June 11, 1943. CDR Lee also served in VP-4 1956-1958 Retired after 30 years of dedicated service. He received many medals for his outstanding service and integrity in the Pacific Theater. An avid hunter, known as "one shot Lee", he had a warm and pleasing personality and an "out of doors" look that confirmed his love of hunting and fishing. Originally, I worked in the Avionics Shop with Chief Toliver, Chief Lightbody, and Chief Hood. I left the squadron to go to "B" School and came back as an aircrewman in CAC 6. John "Blackjack" Cannon was out PPC. Believe the other pilots were Hoot Gibson and Virg Rabine. Art Houta the Tacco. I ended up putting 32 years in and had something like 6500 flight hours. 1600 were in the P5M. Hope to be joing the Mariner/Marlin Association very soon and will try to make the Reunion in May..." In 1977, from VP-1 I moved back across the pond to the Gay...err I mean the Grey Knights at VP-46. In 1979, from there it was a short hop across the runways to the Genies/Blacklightning at VP-31. Then in 1982 across the other way to the Laging Handa Fighting Marlins of VP-40. By then I had been through 4 versions of the P-3 B, Bmod, C, and C UI. In 1986 I decided to say good by to the VPNavy and moved over to the VRC-30 Providers at NAS North Island, San Diego, California where I did a tour crashing and dashing off of Aircraft Carriers. One tour and it was on to NAS Point Mugu, California, in 1989 and the VXE-6 Puckered Penguins where I did 3 seasons down on the "ICE". Ended the career as a Crew Chief on the Navy's only UC-8 Buffalo. Pulled the plug after 21 years and believe it or not retired as a Chief even though all my billets were Aircrew. I started as a student engineer under a guy known as Placidi. I then flew with Elwell an Vada and became a first engineer then a check engineer then the training chief for the FE's. VW-2 was absolutely one of the best squadrons I was ever attached to. I later went to NRL and the to VW-13 at NAS Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada. I was the engineer on the panel during the crash of BUNO: 141329. My seat safety belt was the only thing that saved me. I ended up pinned to the roof of the cockpit. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1979 and was designated a Naval Aviator in November of 1980. LENNON, AK2 Jack johnljoanl@aol.com "...I was stationed at NAF Annapolis, Maryland immediately upon graduation from Great Lakes in August of 1950. We served on PBM5-A's and JRF grumman gooses. We also had a bunch of N3N yellow perils. This was in 1950-1952 time frame. I had a lot of good times and served with a lot of great guys; was even married at the Naval Station Chapel and we had our first boy (one of 7) born at the Naval Academy; so, a lot of fond memories still exist. Too bad they had to close it and I understand that they tore down the radio towers; I used to enjoy going up at night on the flight deck of the USS Block Island (our barracks at the time) and seeing the 12 or so blinking on and off lights on giant Xmas trees. Then there were the duty boat rides across the Severn River; our liberty launches taking us on a well earned respit after a long day of launching and retreiving the N3N aircraft entertaining the Midshipmen; trying to entice them into becoming Naval Aviators. From there I was ordered to Oceana Virginia and joined FASRON-121 who was about to deploy (in LST's) to Vieques. I beleive VP-7 and VP-11 did several training weeks with us. What an interesting job that was, hitting the beach with field packs, and living in tents like a bunch of junglebunnies. It was about a 90 day tour. We then packed up (now late 1953) and we deployed to NAS Chincoteague, Virginia. I left the squadron around late June or July and was discharged in August 1954..."
